International Association of Athletics Federations

Welcome to the "Inside IAAF" section of the official IAAF web site.
Here you will find a wealth of information concerning the structure and workings of the International Association of Athletics Federations, profiles of the members of the IAAF Council and details of the various Committees and Commissions that aid Council in their great responsibility of governing the sport of Athletics world-wide.

Together with my colleagues on the Council, we will build on the legacy left us by Primo Nebiolo and, as a team, strive to ensure that Athletics continues to play its leading role among the sports of the world, for the greater benefit of all who practice it as athletes or enjoy it as fans and enthusiasts.

It is a demanding task, but one that we undertake with determination and enthusiasm, in the knowledge that our efforts will benefit millions of youngsters around the world and encourage them to live healthier lives and compete in a true spirit of fair play and equality.

Lamine Diack

Comments of Mr. Maurice Nicholas, General Secretary of AAA on his inspection of the preparation of the 13th Asian Junior Athletics Championships in Jakarta

It was a fruitful site visit to Jakarta for the 13th Asian Junior Athletics Championships to be held from the 12th to 15th June 2008.

All aspects of preparation are in place and the teams coming to Jakarta will find their stay in Jakarta for the Championships a pleasant one.

The Organizing Team under the leaderships of AAA Council Member, Mr. Tigor Tanjung, was found to be of cheerful disposition and full of enthusiasm and raring to go to get the job done.

The whole Madya Stadium has undergone a complete renovation and athletes will find the facilities updated with no complains to make.

All teams coming for the Championships should do their part by submitting their Final Entries by Name on time and inform the Organizers of their flight details accurately so that they may be met at the airport without any problems and their stay in Indonesia can be made a pleasant one.

Asian AA Honorary Life President, Mr. Bob Hasan, who is also the President of the Indonesia Athletics Federation, will be hosting the Asian Junior Athletics Championships for the third (3rd) time and will be happy to meet all the teams and will be a very generous and gracious host. (May 22,2008)

Malaysian Amateur Athletic Union (M.A.A.U)

The earliest recorded athletic organization anywhere in the country was in Ipoh where in 1906, the Athletic Association was formed. One peculiarity of athletic competition in this early period between 1906 and 1913 was that they were sponsored by the numerous European Clubs in the Federated Malay States and were consequently dominated exclusively by Europeans. These early athletic championships under the title “Ipoh Athletic Sports” were a regular sporting event in Perak, and since they were the only Meets of their kind, the holders of the Challenge Cups were considered the Champions of Malaya.Between 1914 and 1919 these athletic activities were suspended as a result of the First World War.

Singapore Athletic Association (SAA)

Boasting a membership of 20 affiliate institutions, the Singapore Athletic Association (SAA) continues to build on its proud history and tradition as Singapore's governing body in the track and field for the new millennium.

Founded in 1934, SAA's historic footprints began more than 60 years ago when we opened our doors to Singapore's early athletes at the Farrer Park Stadium. Since then, the SAA has toiled and grown, and is now poised to chart new territories for the future. Under the helm of a new dynamic team of volunteers and full-time secretariat, the association will take bold strides to nurture talents and work towards a holistic athlete development and making competitive athletics a viable career.

IAAF FANTASY ATHLETICS 2008

IAAF Fantasy Athletics 2008 is an exciting online game covering the 2008 Golden League season as well as a number of other meetings, including of course the IAAF World Athletics Final.

Each time an athlete competes and finishes in the top 8 during a final (or the top 8 overall combined times), he or she will be awarded points in the game. Your goal is to assemble a team of champion athletes which you believe will be as successful as possible during the season. After twelve separate meetings, and with a bit of luck, one player will be named champion of the 2008 IAAF Fantasy Athletics game. There are also great prizes on offer during each of the Individual Meetings themselves.

The winner of the 2007 IAAF Fantasy Athletics competition attended the IAAF World Indoor Championships as a special guest of the IAAF. This year perhaps that winner will be you?

Registrations are now open for the 2008 season of IAAF Fantasy Athletics.
